Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), is one of the most prestigious institutions for higher studies in Bangladesh. About 5500 students are pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies in engineering, architecture, planning and science in this institution. Currently, BUET has sixteen teaching departments under five faculties and it has three institutes. Every year about 900 undergraduate students and 1000 graduate students in Masters and PhD programs become a part of this university. Energy Research Institute (ERI) was established under Chulalongkorn University in 1991 is based on policy of the university to emphasize research and academic service as equal to teaching and learning, and with an aim to address the energy issues after the world energy crisis in 1973 and 1979. It began with the inception of a committee on energy research to identify and promote research in the area, which was then developed into an Energy and Training Center in 1982 and later into the Energy Research Institute (ERI). ERI wide ranging activities include policy research on energy and environment issues, and providing academic services to society in the field of “energy efficiency and conservation, including alternative energy”. ERI activities are primarily supported by various agencies including- government, international and private sector. Besides this, ERI is involved in the issues related to Climate Change and CDM Business Opportunities with the aim to assist Thailand promote clean energy projects. GISPRI was established as Public Interest Corporation in 1988, with an objective to conduct research wide-ranging issues related to global resources, environment, international regimes, industry, economy, culture and society, based on the awareness that the role and responsibility of Japan in the international community has been rising with Japan’s increasing economic and social presence. GISPRI aims to present policy proposals based on its research and surveys for both domestic and international entities, while promoting exchange of information and ideas to help contribute to the prosperity of the global society. Global Climate Change Institute (GCCI) is the research center of Tsinghua University established to address climate change policy issues and integrated sustainable development strategies on energy, environment and economy. The center also acts as a significant research base in the subject of the Management Science and Engineering in Tsinghua. Since 1980’s, GCCI/INET has been actively involved at both the international and domestic fronts focusing on climate change policy issues and energy, environmental and economic challenges acting as essential advisory and decision supporting institution for the government. The institute has been involved in numerous research areas and has significant expertise in the field of climate change. The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) was established as an initiative of the Japanese Government in 1998. The research institute conducts pragmatic and innovative strategic policy research to support sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region. In the face of the challenges that the Asia-Pacific region faces, the mission of IGES is to create effective strategies and propose practical solutions to support sustainable development, particularly in the region, while looking ahead 50 or even 100 years into the future. The Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) was founded in September 1983 in Tehran as one of the first think tanks in Iran after the Islamic Revolution in 1979 with the task of leading and encouraging the study and research on issues relevant to the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Korea Energy Economics Institute (KEEI) is a government funded research institution focusing on energy policy research. The Institute carries out the task of policy development by responding to the changes in the energy industry within and outside Korea while providing alternatives to address these issues. The KEEI was established as a government-affiliated research institute in order to contribute to the national energy policy-making by collecting, analyzing, and disseminating energy information and issues. The National Energy Research Center was established for the purposes of research, development and training in the fields of new and renewable energy; raising the efficiency of using energy in the different economic sectors. This research center established in Amman - Jordan is considered as one of the specialized science and technological centers working under the umbrella of the Higher Council for Science and Technology. The main objectives of the center are - Use of the local new and renewable energy sources like oil shale wind energy solar energy bio-mass and geothermal to increase their contribution to satisfy the Kingdom's energy needs and to improve methods, incentives and advisory services of efficient energy use to decrease total energy cost on the national level and to protect the environment. The Petroleum Institute of Pakistan (PIP), represents all segments of the Petroleum Industry. It was established in July 1963 to promote and coordinate the activities of the Oil and Gas Industry in Pakistan. The Institute of Energy Economics, Japan established in 1966 is certified as an incorporated foundation by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. The institute aims to carry on research activities specialized in the area of energy from the national economy perspective in a bid to contribute to sound development of the Japanese energy-supplying and energy-consuming industries and for the improvement of people's life in the country by objectively analyzing energy problems and providing basic data, information and reports necessary for the formulation of policies. IEEJ has expanded its scope of research activities to include such topics as environmental problems and international cooperation closely related to energy. In October 1984, the Energy Data and Modeling Center (EDMC) was established as an IEEJ-affiliated organization to carry out such tasks as the development of energy data bases, building of various energy models and econometric analyses of energy. In 1999, EDMC was merged into IEEJ and began operating as an IEEJ division under the same name, i.e., the Energy Data and Modeling Center. The IEEJ vision aims to “Considering the Energy-Environmental Issues of Japan and Asia from a Global Perspective and Proposing Policy Solutions”.
