India: GAIL readies $1billion war chest for shale gas

State-run utility GAIL has drawn up a war chest of $1 billion for acquiring shale gas assets abroad and will pump $400 million into importing gas in ships (liquefied natural gas) and petrochemicals through its Singapore trading desk. The trading office will also look at logistics and shipping requirements for moving LNG to India. It will identify sellers for long-term, short term and spot supplies, besides make money through arbitrage. Initially, the focus will be on LNG that will make up about 90% of the trading.  Read full story...
